Planting and Plant Care Rules: Malvina Flower

Mallow - a flower that is completely unpretentious and easy to care for. Plant growth begins with the choice of planting material and a place for planting. Where to plant perennial mallow? For favorable growth and development of mallow, a site is selected, which is well lit in the daytime. The less light, the poorer flowering will be. The stem rose quickly adapts and grows in almost any soil, but it will feel best in loose soil filled with oxygen and nutrients. The landing area should be high and dry.

Perennial garden geranium - planting and care

Accumulation of excess moisture in the soil can lead to decay of the root system. It is best to plant a flower on the sunny side of the house, where it will be protected from the wind. Plant care is extremely simple and straightforward. It is recommended only to periodically loosen the soil to ensure active air exchange to the roots, and to remove weeds. Watering is necessary for mallow only in dry, hot weather. After flowering, the stalks of mallow are cut to the level of the soil, cover the soil with mulch - straw, humus, and cover the bushes with spruce branches.

Note! This flower is resistant to most types of diseases and pests. If the plant is still affected, then it is urgent to take measures: remove the affected leaves and treat the bush with special preparations.

Mallow flowers: growing

Growing a stem rose from seeds is carried out in several stages.

Collection of planting material. After flowering, on the stalk of the mallow, fruits appear - boxes with seeds. It takes several weeks to fully mature. After they dry and darken, you can collect them. It is worth noting that the seeds are suitable for planting within three years after harvesting, and it is in the third year that they germinate best.

The choice of growing method. Seeds can be planted both in open ground and in a container for growing seedlings. The method of planting depends on how soon the gardener wants to achieve flowering plants. When seeds are planted in the ground, by autumn, only the first rosette of leaves is formed on the plant. If you grow mallow in seedlings, then by the end of July you can already enjoy the first blossoming flowers.

Growing seedlings. For timely seedlings, planting mallow seeds in containers is necessary in early February. To produce seedlings, planting material must be soaked in water at room temperature for swelling and planted in the soil to a shallow depth. The most optimal air temperature for growing seedlings is considered 22 degrees heat.

Seedlings

Transplanting seedlings into the soil. It is possible to plant mallow seedlings in open ground not earlier than the beginning of May, when the earth is already warm enough, and the risk of frost is minimized. Plants are planted in the evening, so that they do not fade under the scorching sun. The distance between the bushes in the flower bed should be at least 30 centimeters.

If we are talking about planting seeds in the ground, then this should be done in May. When spring firmly takes over, it is necessary to find a suitable place for planting mallow, loosen the soil, water and plant the seeds a few centimeters in depth. Under favorable climatic conditions, the first sprouts will appear after a couple of weeks, but the mallow will bloom only next year.

Note! In order for the seeds to sprout earlier, you can plant them in the fall, but in this case, you need to carefully think about their shelter.

There are several methods that will speed up the process of seed germination:

  • soak. If you soak the seeds in water heated to 45 degrees, the peel will soften, and seedlings will sprout much faster;
  • mini greenhouse. Seeds are laid out on a paper towel folded several times, at a short distance from each other, placed in a bowl and pour in warm water. To create the effect of a greenhouse, the plate is covered with cling film and left for 24 hours. Instead of a paper towel, you can also use a soft cloth;
  • hydrogel is a product designed specifically for seed germination. You can buy it in a specialized store. Before placing the seeds in the hydrogel, you must hold them in a solution of calcium;
  • you can just place the seeds in a dark, damp place. Such a microclimate activates root growth and, after sowing, they quickly sprout.

Preparation for landing

How and where to plant mallow? This question is asked by every gardener who decides to decorate his plot with a stem rose. As noted above, mallow loves light very much. In the shade, the flowers of the plant will be rare, small and pale in color. Landing area should be well lit by sunlight. It is optimal to plant mallow on a hill so that water does not accumulate in the soil. So that high stems are not broken by the wind, it is best to plant a plant along a wall or fence. Growth activity and stem-rose bloom will depend on the selected site.

To saturate the soil for planting mallow with nutrients, it is necessary to dig it and fertilize with humus. As for the seedlings, the soil is prepared for it: two parts of the land from the garden plot, one part of sand and one part of humus. Actively growing mallow does not require frequent top dressing. Once a year, in the spring it is quite enough. For fertilizer, complex mineral fertilizers for flowering plants should be used.

After landing care

Caring for a flower after planting is quite simple. After planting a seedling in the soil, it is necessary to press down its roots well with the soil and water it abundantly. After rooting and the beginning of active growth, it is necessary to loosen the soil and remove weeds. Young bushes require more frequent watering in small quantities. As you grow, the number of waterings is reduced.

Blooming

When buds appear on the stalk of the mallow, it must be fertilized with a mineral complex. For abundant flowering, it is recommended to remove the peduncles milking until the fruits begin to form on them. Mallow is a completely unpretentious flower, and it does not require special attention and special care.

So that the long and fragile stems of the plant are not broken by the wind, you can tie them to the supports.

Note! Mallow does not tolerate a transplant, since in the process, sprouted roots can be damaged and this will cause illness or death. Therefore, it is necessary to choose a permanent place for the mallow, and seedlings are best done in peat pots.

Cold preparation

Care for mallow is necessary not only when the summer, but also requires careful preparation of the plant for winter. Despite the fact that the stem rose copes well even with severe cold, it is still necessary to take care of it before winter. The most important step in preparing for wintering is pruning. Trimming long stems is necessary immediately after flowering, so that the forces of the plant are not wasted on the maturation of polysperms.

Some varieties of mallow after pruning have time to grow and bloom again before the onset of cold weather.

Note! Some experts do not consider pruning a mandatory event and recommend only removing peduncles. In their opinion, this will be enough to prepare for the winter.

If, nevertheless, a decision has been made to cut the stems, then you need to do this under the root. It is advisable to cover with branches of conifers, to cover with peat or humus.
